The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that the southwest monsoon has begun to depart after a week of good rains. The premature monsoon withdrawal began in western Rajasthan 10 days ago and will likely be complete by October 1.
Satellite images show a clear sky this week and a bright sun. The weather on Tuesday morning seemed to be heralding the arrival of the winter season, the weather experts said, adding that the beginning of the wind blowing from the west and the clear weather is a clear indication of the departure of the monsoon.
That said, many parts of North India, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Northeast India, and many areas of South India, will witness heavy rain on Tuesday.
Heavy rain is also expected in Himachal Pradesh, parts of the Northeast, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka on September 29. Rain and thunderstorm activity may continue in several states, including Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Chhattisgarh.
Rain in Maharashtra
The weather may also remain inclement in many parts of Maharashtra. Rain is expected at various places in Central Maharashtra and Marathwada on Wednesday. Strong winds of 40-50 kilometres per hour, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, are expected in Central Maharashtra, with gusts reaching up to 60 kilometres per hour.
Rainfall is also expected to begin in Konkan and Goa on Tuesday and continue until October 4th. Rainfall accompanied by strong winds is expected on September 29th. Rainfall activity is expected in the Gujarat region from September 29th to October 1st, while rainfall is expected in Saurashtra and Kutch on September 30th and October 1st.
