What should have been the happiest day of her life turned into a nightmare for a 17-year-old girl, who was gang-raped on her birthday at Aastha Kunj Park in south Delhi.
Speaking to the police, she recounted the horror of that day and how she was raped despite resisting and begging to be left alone.
The girl said that she left home to visit Kalkaji Mandir and seek blessings on her birthday. A stopover at a park on the way to another temple turned the evening into a nightmare.
The alleged incident took place on September 21.
According to the FIR, the girl, along with her friend, reached the temple around 5:45 pm, where they stayed until around 7 pm.
In her statement, the two then entered Aastha Kunj Park through Gate No. 7. She told police that she also wanted to visit the ISKCON temple and suggested that they sit in the park for a while, eat some chips and continue to the temple.
The girl alleged that three men, aged between 30 and 35, approached them. The men grabbed her friend and slapped them, she told cops. When the two asked who they were, the men allegedly claimed to be policemen, questioned them about their presence in the park and told them entry was not allowed.
Then the girl said that the men took her friend away, while the others took away their mobile phones. The girl was then taken to a secluded area.
Scared, she told them that if they had questions, they could ask her there or speak to her mother. "It was then that one man had asked the other to show his gun," she said.
She further alleged that the men then took out knives and took her to a secluded, dark area of the park. Then, they had raped her one after another.
She alleged that she was threatened with a knife and repeatedly told not to make any noise.
During the alleged assault, the girl told the police that she was in severe pain and was crying, but the accused did not stop.
After the assault, the accused ordered her to dress quickly and brought her friend back. Their phones were also given back, and they ordered them to leave the park immediately.
She also added that the men threatened to kill them if they told anyone about the incident.
After they left the park, the girl told her friend about the assault, and he called the police control room.
The police reached the spot and began an investigation. All three accused have been arrested and taken into police custody.
