As the nation reels from the shock of the Jamui incident, wherein a teenage boy and girl returning from coaching classes were assaulted and molested, a similar incident has been reported from Bihar’s Banka, where a girl was molested and assaulted at the famous tourist destination of Mount Mandar.
The footage of the incident shows young men misbehaving with a woman at Mandar Mountain, a historic tourist destination in Banka. They were also seen assaulting her with slippers.
Police said the incident happened on June 3rd but came to light only on September 22. The Banka police have launched a probe into the matter.
The police version is that they were made aware of the video on WhatsApp around 1:45 pm on September 22. Baunsi Police Station Chief Pankaj Kumar Jha alerted the local station, following which the senior officials arrived at Mandar Mountain with a police force. The police team arrived at the scene and verified the location shown in the viral video.
Police identified the molesters as Abdullah, Nitish Kumar Rai, and Vikas. Officials said these boys not only assaulted and molested the girl and her friend, but also made them transfer Rs 1,500 online.
Police said raids are underway to arrest the three accused.
However, the incident has triggered a protest, with opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav stating that “law and order in Bihar is on its deathbed”.
“The nominated puppet Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary is hollowing out the foundations of justice and civilised society in Bihar through his clumsiness, boastfulness, immaturity, impatience, anxiety, and unnecessary interference in police functioning,” Yadav asked, while questioning the fate of the five accused in the Jamui case.
“Did the four accused in the Samastipur case get half punishment or full, or were they let off based on some equation?” he questioned.
Meanwhile, Minister Ramkripal Yadav expressed concern over the incidents and said that whether it is Samastipur or Jamui, the government is keeping a close watch on these matters.
He said that such people should be socially boycotted and there is a need to launch a social movement against them. “The government is taking strict action against such individuals. These incidents are bringing disrepute to Bihar and society as a whole,” he said.
