Jharkhand minister Deepika Pandey Singh's daughter was among the victims as a road accident claimed four lives in Domukhani, Jamshedpur. The car suffered severe damage following the crash with a truck on Wednesday night.
"Just moments ago, I received the deeply sorrowful information that this morning, in a road accident on the NH highway in Jamshedpur, our little sister and Rural Development Minister Deepika Pandey Ji's daughter passed away," Singh's cabinet colleague Dr Irfan Ansari said on X.
"In this unbearable hour of grief, I express my deepest condolences to Deepika Ji and the entire family. The pain of a mother losing her child cannot be expressed in words. May God grant a place at His divine feet to the departed soul and bestow strength upon the bereaved family to endure this immense sorrow," he added.
The car, a Maruti Swift, was completely damaged in the accident, photos on the internet showed. However, it is possible that first responders cut through it to extract the trapped passengers prior to shifting them to hospital. The names of the victims were not immediately known. It was also not reported whether it was a head-on collision.
Jharkhand Rural Development Minister Deepika Pandey Singh made news recently when she was tasked with talking to protesting students. She had stated that students' democratic rights should be respected and violent means such as batons, tear gas, or pellet guns should not be used against them. She reportedly ended student leader Devendra Nath Mahato's fast by giving him juice.
