The two youngsters seen harassed by a crowd in a viral video shot in Bihar's Jamui were minors, the police confirmed. They were stopped while travelling on a scooter, following which the harassment took place.
The shocking video showed men touching the minor girl inappropriately and even carrying her away for some distance on the road before being stopped by her friend. The youngsters were seen pleading with folded hands in an effort to be left alone.
Now, Jamui Police have confirmed that the shocking incident took place between 6 PM and 7 PM on September 19, Saturday. Two people have been detained in connection with the incident already, and efforts are on to identify others, TV18 Hindi said.
The minors, too, have reportedly been identified and their statements have been recorded. An FIR has been filed and efforts have been initiated to identify all the accused, Hindi media reports quoted the police as saying.
Meanwhile, the viral video has kicked up a storm on social media. "The incident being circulated from Jamui, Bihar is absolutely horrifying. What these men allegedly did to this young woman is beyond any justification. The behaviour shown in the circulated footage is deeply disturbing and raises serious questions about the safety of women in public spaces," a user who shared the video said.
"These men were clearly trying to rape the girl — the intention is visible in the video. There is absolutely no justification for what they did. This is blatant sexual violence and must be treated with the utmost seriousness," another post added.
