CM Vijay's rare gesture in Assembly for DMK MLA Durai Chandrasekaran goes viral, sparks table thumping | VIDEO

Amid the chaos in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on Monday, CM C. Joseph Vijay's rare gesture towards a DMK MLA went viral, drawing reactions within the House and across social media.

The actor-politician was seen helping up DMK MLA Durai Chandrasekaran, who had been standing among many others from his party amid a dharna on the Assembly floor, just in front of the Speaker.

This comes after DMK MLAs decided to stage a walkout over claims that they did not get a chance to respond to the CM's fiery 40-minute speech spanning corruption, nepotism, the TASMAC scam, and comments on women.

However, Chandrasekaran remained seated, despite the call for DMK leaders to walkout, which intrigued Vijay. When he asked the DMK leader why he had not walked out oof the House, Chandrasekaran replied that he was unable to get up from his seat.

“What do you mean you can't get up?” the CM asked, promptly giving the Thiruvaiyar MLA a helping hand, for which the DMK leader offered his thanks and joined the walkout, as per a PTI report.

Visuals from the scene also showed ministers and other members in the House applauding the gesture by thumping their tables.

This comes just days after Chandrasekaran faced flak for his alleged disrespectful comments against both CM Vijay and Industries Minister S. Keerthana at a public meeting.

The controversy concerns the use of the singular which, in Tamil, is considered disrespectful when referring to ministers. Chandrasekaran had also alleged that the Industries Minister had said in the Assembly that all of Tamil Nadu's recent achievements belonged to the TVK-led government, and claimed that they had actually been implemented by the DMK government.

This alleged disrespect was formally highlighted by Milk and Dairy Development Minister C. Vijayalakshmi at the Zero Hour of the Assembly on Monday.

"It was highly condemnable, and the Speaker should take action in this regard," she said, as per a DT Next report.

Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar replied that TVK minister N. Anand had also raised the issue with him personally, and that he would decide on the matter after listening to the speech again to determine if the remarks were disrespectful to the ministers and the Assembly.
