BJP leader and former union minister Ravneet Singh Bittu was detained by Punjab Police on Saturday after he staged a protest outside Punjab Agricultural University as chief minister Bhagwant Mann’s convoy was passing by.
Bittu reportedly tried to throw liquor bottles, eggs and tomatoes. The CM’s convoy was headed towards the indoor stadium via South City.
Bittu was allegedly already at Gate no 8 carrying the eggs. During his demonstration, he held up a liquor bottle towards the convoy and said that he was returning the bottle to Mann.
He also told the chief to enjoy his liquor while allowing Kejriwal to “loot Punjab from Delhi”
He was detained by Ludhiana Police and taken to an undisclosed location.
The detention came a day after he alleged that his cavalcade had been attacked by AAP workers near Batala while he was travelling to Pathankot to attend the BJP’s anti-drug Yatra.
He also claimed that more than 100 AAP workers targeted his cavalcade and hurled stones and eggs at the vehicles.
He said that the attack damaged two escort vehicles and a jammer vehicle. He said that it occurred when his convoy slowed down.
Bittu also warned that if anything happened to him or those accompanying him, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the state DGP would be held responsible. He said he had informed the Union Home Ministry about the matter.
