Two terrorists suspected to be affiliated with Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) were killed in an ongoing operation by security forces in a remote, high-altitude forest area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district.

According to officials, the joint operation involving the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and the CRPF was underway in the Brattal Sohan and Khubban areas of Majalta.

The Jammu-based White Knight Corps said in a post on X that the operation was launched following intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the area.

“Despite hostile weather, difficult terrain and poor visibility, troops of Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF launched a targeted counter-terrorism operation, resulting in the neutralisation of two terrorists,” it said.

The Army said the operation was still in progress, with search and surveillance operations continuing in the area. Security forces remain deployed to track and neutralise any remaining threat, it added.

Meanwhile, quoting officials, PTI reported that a few rounds of firing and blasts were heard shortly after the operation began.

The area remained largely quiet through the night before the lull ended on Thursday morning, when the terrorists reportedly opened heavy fire in an attempt to break the security cordon.
