Security forces launched a search operation along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district following the sighting of suspected Pakistani drones along the border area, reports said on Friday. When the alert troops opened fire at them, the drones were forced to retreat from the border, they reportedly said.

Following unconfirmed reports of suspected movement of an infiltrator along the LoC in the Nowshera sector, security forces launched a search operation in the area on Friday, the sources said. Suspected Pakistani drones were seen flying along the LoC in the Rumlidhara area of the Nowshera sector around midnight on Thursday, the sources reportedly told news agency PTI.

The operation was aimed at sanitising the forward areas and ruling out any infiltration attempt, they said, adding that security forces and other agencies were maintaining heightened vigil along the LoC.

Earlier this year, suspected drone activity was reported in forward areas of Rajouri and Samba districts, prompting security forces to launch search operations.

Quoting intelligence sources, a report had earlier claimed that Islamabad has inducted a mix of electronic and kinetic counter-UAS systems along the LoC. The ‘Sufra’ drone-jamming guns, as well as the Spider counter-UAS system, are part of the package, which also includes Oerlikon GDF 35-mm twin-barrel anti-aircraft guns and Anza Mk-II and Mk-III man-portable air defence systems (MANPADS).

The Pakistan Army wants to ensure it has enough drones at its disposal to match India’s capacity and is reportedly in talks with its allies Türkiye and China regarding procurements. Many of the new installations will come up facing the Rajouri, Poonch, Nowshera, and Sunderbani sectors of Jammu and Kashmir, the news report said.
