Arunima, a travel vlogger from Kerala who faced an ordeal while travelling solo in Afghanistan, said she escaped a threat of arrest by the Taliban. Earlier, she claimed she was detained by 'Mujahideen' members because women are prohibited from travelling without a male companion or guide.
"According to the law of this country, a woman cannot travel alone," the vlogger, who runs the Facebook page Backpacker Arunima, said in a fresh social media post.
For nearly three hours, she was in police custody before being released. Recounting the incident, she said she reached Bamyan around 7 pm and was questioned about her passport, visa and permit.
In her post, she added that she had earlier been denied a permit in Jalalabad because she was travelling alone.
The vlogger claimed that the authorities in Bamyan told her that she had violated the law and would be arrested. According to Manorama Online, she had been travelling through Afghanistan for the past 27 days, which was considered as a serious offence by the authorities.
Arunima, who is on a solo trip, is planning to leave for Uzbekistan on Tuesday, and she will have to travel around 500 km to reach the border. She said that till reaching the border, she is scared. "My body is shaking," she said.
"I had to go through all this only because I am a woman," the vlogger said. She further said that she was extremely frightened and feared that something might happen to her and hence posted an Instagram story hoping that someone would come to her rescue.
In her earlier post, she said, "I am in trouble in Afghanistan. I am in Bamyan." She had mentioned that she had been arrested by the "Mujahideen" for travelling alone.
According to her account, the authorities insisted that she obtain a permit and travel with a guide.
