Hours after the arrest of Kalyan Bainsla in the Gurugram hit-and-run case, his cousin Lavnish Gurjar was also nabbed from Rajasthan's Dausa.
The duo was together on Sunday when their speeding car rammed a woman biker, knocking her off and sending her skidding down a road.
The accused driver, Bainsla, 33, gave an interview to the media on Monday, following which he absconded and switched off his phone. He was later traced to Rajasthan by a Crime Branch team.
On Tuesday, he allegedly tried to flee from police custody after seeking permission to urinate. He was caught between Dausa and Rajgarh when he sought permission to urinate and tried to escape. Bainsla, who is a gym owner, suffered minor injuries after falling. He was later treated at a nearby hospital.
According to police, Bainsla passed indecent comments against Shivani Chauhan, 27, while driving on Golf Course Road in Gurugram. She shared a video of the hit-and-run accompanied by her voiceover. In the video, Bainsla's Maruti Suzuki Ciaz can be seen grazing Chauhan's Aprilia RS 457 from behind.
The car, which was registered in the name of an acquaintance, has also been impounded.
Gurugram DCP (East) Sandeep Kumar said the victim claimed that Bainsla hurled a slur at her before the incident and tried to kill her. "It can be clearly seen that he deliberately hit (the biker) from the side after an argument the intent was to kill the victim. The victim has also told the police that the intention was to kill her," he said.
Police have registered a case under BNS Section 109 (attempt to murder), Section 78 (physical and digital stalking), and Section 79 (acts against modesty of a woman). "We will take him on police remand after he is produced in a city court, while the role of his friend is being verified," the DCP said.
