Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Nitin Nabin has appealed to citizens to light a ‘diya’ at their homes between 6 pm and 7 pm on September 17, marking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, and pray for his good health and continued success.

In a post on X, Nabin described Modi’s 25-year journey as a head of government as “unprecedented” and said that service to the nation through service to the people had been the guiding principle of the Prime Minister’s life.

Nabin said Modi’s “visionary leadership” had given the country a new direction and renewed strength.

“To convey our best wishes for this progressive journey of the nation and for Modi ji’s illustrious leadership, let us light an ‘Aashirwad ka Diya’ (lamp of blessings) in our homes between 6 pm and 7 pm on the auspicious occasion of the Prime Minister’s birthday this coming September 17. Let us offer our blessings and pray for his long life and good health,” he said.

In a video message, Nabin claimed that policies, programmes and schemes launched by the Modi government had brought about “transformative changes” in the lives of ordinary people. He cited initiatives including Atmanirbhar Bharat, the Swachh Bharat Mission and the Lakhpati Didi scheme.

Referring to the COVID-19 pandemic, Nabin said India’s vaccination drive demonstrated the country’s progress towards self-reliance.

“During the COVID period, through the vaccination drive, Modi sent a message to the entire world that India was advancing towards becoming ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’,” he said.

On internal security, Nabin said the Prime Minister had worked towards combating Naxalism and terrorism.

“Under his leadership, India delivered a fitting and decisive response to terrorism,” he said.
