Ramanuj Goswami, the man who beheaded his wife Riya Talukdar in Guwahati, died in the early hours of Monday after he jumped off a moving police vehicle. He was being taken to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital for a medical examination, police sources said.
He was meant to be produced before a court on Monday as his seven-day custody ended on Sunday. Ramanuj married Riya on September 22 2025.
On September 3, he killed her after they had an argument over Riya’s alleged extramarital affair and beheaded her. Investigators discovered her head inside a refrigerator.
He surrendered to police on September 6 and was arrested by the police. The same night, police recovered the body and her head.
On September 8, Ramanuj told media persons that he would “kill her Sugar Daddy” if and when he comes out of jail.
He also said that he did not regret the crime and that he would not apologise for the murder.
Sources said that the accused used to consume substances and has undergone treatment in a no-closed rehab centre on the outskirts of Guwahati, Times of India reported.
The accused was a cab driver. The couple used to live in a flat in Basishthapur in Guwahati’s Beltola area.
