The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that for the country as a whole, rainfall is likely to be above normal till Tuesday, September 15, and below normal during the remaining part of the week.
Under the influence of the upper air cyclonic circulation over the north Bay of Bengal, a low-pressure area has formed over the north Bay of Bengal, an IMD forecast said. The low-pressure area is likely to move west-northwestwards across the northwest Bay of Bengal and central India during the next five days.
As per the IMD, a weather system may develop near Gujarat around September 16 and then move inland towards northwest India, potentially bringing changes in weather and rainfall over parts of north and central India.
"There is also a likelihood of its emergence into the northeast Arabian Sea off the Gujarat coast towards the end of week 1 (around September 16). Thereafter, it is likely to recurve east-northeastwards and move onto land across northwest India.
"As a result, easterlies are likely to prevail over the northern and central Bay of Bengal, the plains of north India and central India, while weak westerlies are likely to prevail over peninsular India," the IMD said.

Under the influence of certain systems, the weather department has come up with the following weather predictions for the coming days:
- Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely over Madhya Pradesh from September 11 to 14.
- Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely over Chhattisgarh from September 10 to 14.
- The Andaman & Nicobar Islands and West Bengal may get thunderstorms and widespread rainfall from September 10 to 16. The same weather conditions may also be experienced in Gangetic West Bengal from September 10 to 13.
- Jharkhand and Odisha may get fairly widespread to widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning until September 12.
- As far as the northeastern states are concerned, isolated heavy rainfall should be expected until September 15 — particularly in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Tripura, and Meghalaya.
- Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Uttarakhand from September 10 to 13; Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, and Punjab during September 14 to 15; and east Rajasthan on September 13 and 14.
- Rainfall is likely over Konkan and Goa at least until September 16, while Maharashtra is likely to receive showers until September 13.
- Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall is likely to hit Gujarat from September 12 to 15.
- Coastal parts of Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Lakshadweep should expect rainfall of varying strength until September 16, while September 11 is likely to be a wet day for Telangana.
