The BJP will hold a month-long ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ from September 17 to October 17 to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi completing 25 years as a constitutional head on October 7. He became Gujarat chief minister on October 7, 2001.
BJP president Nitin Nabin announced the programme at his first press conference at the party headquarters in New Delhi on Wednesday.
Nabin said the BJP’s annual Seva Pakhwada around Modi’s birthday would be expanded this year into a month-long campaign. The programme will have 12 activities aimed at highlighting Modi’s 25 years of service, government schemes and the BJP’s vision of a developed India by 2047.
Nabin praised Modi’s journey from an ordinary party worker to Prime Minister, saying his “clear vision and firm resolve” had brought changes to people’s lives. He said that completing 25 years as a constitutional head in a diverse democracy was an achievement in itself.
He claimed that 25 crore people had been brought out of poverty, 80 crore people were receiving ration, more than 100 crore had been covered by social security schemes and more than four crore houses had been built for the poor. He also cited 12 crore toilets and 200 crore free Covid vaccine doses as achievements of the Modi government.
Nabin said India had moved from what he described as “policy paralysis” and the “Fragile-5” to one of the fastest-growing economies. He also highlighted India’s growing global standing and said Modi had received the highest honours of 37 countries.
Events during the month
The campaign will begin on September 17, Modi’s birthday, with blood donation camps. At 7 pm, the BJP will hold ‘Ashirvad ka Diya’, in which families, especially beneficiaries of government schemes, will light lamps as a gesture of gratitude.
A cleanliness campaign will be held on October 2. Schools will also hold painting, drawing and speech competitions on Modi’s 25 years of service and the vision of Viksit Bharat.
Under ‘Namo Seva: Unspoken Stories’, street and musical plays will showcase stories linked to government schemes. The programmes will be taken to villages. ‘Angan Milan Seva’ will be held at anganwadi centres to spread information about nutrition, health and women-related schemes.
The BJP youth wing will organise Seva Yatras between Vadnagar, Modi’s birthplace, and Varanasi. Ten groups of 50 young people each will travel through 10 states, holding village meetings and interacting with farmers, anganwadi workers and youth clubs.
Under ‘Seva Mera Yogdan’, people will be encouraged to contribute at least 25 minutes of voluntary labour. ‘Seva Setu Abhiyan’ will organise camps at the block level to help people access welfare schemes.
The BJP will also hold an innovation challenge for students, startups and professionals. Selected innovations will be showcased nationally.
A ‘Sushasan Samvaad’ will bring together grassroots public representatives, including sarpanches and ward members, as part of the party’s Viksit Bharat campaign.
Nabin said the campaign would seek to take the message of Modi’s 25 years of public service to people across the country and build support for the goal of Viksit Bharat 2047.
