HarperCollins India will publish the long-anticipated Belonging: A Journey of Love by Sonia Gandhi. The memoir will be published in India in November 2026.
The book was meant to be published by Penguin Random House India but was stalled after the publisher, and the authors’ lawyers reached an “impasse over a particular issue”
On Friday, HarperCollins confirmed that they gained the rights to distribute the memoir in a post on Instagram. “HarperCollins India will publish Belonging: A Journey of Love by Sonia Gandhi. The long-awaited memoir will be published in India on 10 November 2026.
One of the most anticipated political memoirs of our time, Belonging is a dramatic and deeply personal story of love, identity, duty and belonging, and offers a rare insider's view of India’s journey,” the post read.
The disagreement reportedly occurred after an editorial review of the book.
Penguin India had clarified that publishing was stalled after an understanding could now be reached on a particular issue.
PRHI spokesperson Palavi Narayan had said that the publishing house was really keen to bring out the memoir
They also denied any claims that there was external pressure affecting the disagreement. The publishing house did not comment on the nature of the disagreement.
There were allegations that the publication was pressured to remove sections concerning the Prime Minister, the RSS and China’s occupation of Indian territory during the Modi government from the memoir.
