Moderate rain is likely to occur in most parts of the Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada districts of coastal Karnataka on September 3, Saturday. Rain is likely to occur in one or two places in the Belgaum, Bidar, Dharwad, Haveri, Kalaburagi, and Vijayapura districts, local media reports quoted the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Bengaluru Centre as saying.

According to the report, moderate rainfall is expected at some places in the Shimoga, Chikkamagaluru, and Kodagu districts on Thursday, while light showers may be witnessed at some places in the Bellary, Bangalore Urban, Bangalore Rural, Chamarajanagar, Chikkaballapur, Chitradurga, Davangere, Hassan, Kolar, Mandya, Mysore, Ramanagara, Tumkur, and Vijayanagar districts.

The south-west monsoon has brought normal rainfall to coastal Karnataka, while its effect has been weak in interior Karnataka, TV9 Kannada said in a report.

The IMD had also said that moderate rain is expected at most places in the Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada districts today. It had reportedly said that the northern interior districts of Belagavi, Bidar, Dharwad, Haveri, Kalaburagi, and Vijayapura are likely to experience rain combined with winds reaching 30–40 km/h on Wednesday.

Earlier, neighbouring Kerala had confirmed that it recorded 1,367.1 mm of rainfall during the south-west monsoon from June 1 to August 31, which was 22 per cent below the normal rainfall of 1,746.8 mm. The rainfall during the period was classified as "deficient" for the state.

Among the districts, Wayanad, which is considered a gateway to Karnataka, recorded the highest deficit of 50 per cent, receiving 1,090.1 mm against the normal 2,200.9 mm. Several other districts, however, recorded rainfall in the normal category. Kannur received 2,194 mm against the normal 2,349.7 mm, a deficit of seven per cent, while Kasaragod recorded 2,254.8 mm against 2,576.8 mm, a 12 per cent deficit.

As per IMD data, Lakshadweep also recorded deficient rainfall during the period, receiving 635.1 mm against the normal 856.9 mm, a deficit of 26 per cent.
