Bengaluru cybercrime police inspector, Ravi K. B., who was on a cybercrime assignment, was among the four people killed after a passenger bus overturned and plunged from a 30-foot-high bridge in Madhya Pradesh’s Rajgarh district on Friday morning.
Eleven passengers were injured when a bus fell off a bridge on the Bhopal bypass in Biaora. The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The police officer was part of a cybercrime team that had travelled to nab two suspects; after sending one accused back by flight, he and a colleague took a bus to track down the remaining suspect. Inspector Ravi, who was sleeping in an upper berth, fell off a bridge after being thrown through a window broken during the crash.
Police officials in Karnataka are coordinating with their Madhya Pradesh counterparts to complete the formalities and bring the officer’s body back to Bengaluru.
A rescue operation is underway with local police and emergency personnel working to extricate the passengers from the mangled bus and shift the injured to hospitals.
According to preliminary reports, the bus was carrying passengers travelling towards Ujjain. The exact circumstances that led to the bus overturning and plunging from the bridge are yet to be established.
Senior officials in Bengaluru are in touch with the Rajgarh district administration and Madhya Pradesh Police as arrangements are being made for the transportation of the deceased officer’s body to Karnataka.
