Jharkhand Police have registered three fresh FIRs against 39 named and more than 900 unidentified people in connection with clashes between protesting students and police in Giridih and Hazaribag.
The fresh cases come days after three FIRs were registered at Ranchi’s Kotwali police station against 14 named and 200 unidentified protesters for allegedly obstructing government work and clashing with police.
The clashes erupted in several districts, including Ranchi, Giridih and Hazaribag, on Friday and Saturday after students protesting alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations burnt effigies of Chief Minister Hemant Soren.
In Hazaribag, an FIR was registered at Korra police station against 18 named accused and around 700 unidentified people. They have been accused of obstructing government work and assaulting policemen while allegedly attempting to burn an effigy of Soren on August 21.
“No one has been arrested or detained so far,” Korra police station officer-in-charge Nemdhari Rajak said. Police are analysing CCTV and video footage to identify those allegedly involved in the violence, he added.
According to the police, eight personnel, including four sub-inspectors serving as officers-in-charge of four police stations, were injured in the clashes.
Two FIRs were registered in Giridih. The first was based on a complaint by ABVP activist Anish Rai, while the second was filed on the complaint of Sadar Circle Inspector Manoj Kumar Singh.
Police said the first FIR named JMM leaders and workers as accused, with 11 people, including party district president Sanjay Singh, named in the case. Another 20 people have been booked as unidentified accused.
The second FIR names around 10 people and lists 200 others as unidentified accused.
The cases have been filed amid continuing protests by students over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations in the state.
