A 31-year-old software engineer died after he was beaten to death by his in-laws in Delhi on Saturday.
The incident took place in Delhi’s Vihar area. The victim, Vinay Gupta, worked with Adobe in Noida.
He married his 31-year-old wife, Rekha, who is a homemaker, about 3 and a half years ago. The couple had twin children, a boy and a girl, who are four and a half months old.
According to the police, the incident took place after a dispute between Gupta and his wife on Friday. The argument was reportedly about giving medicine to their child.
During the dispute, his wife reportedly left for some time and contacted her family, who then arrived at his house in Nihar Vihar.
According to his family, about six relatives from his wife’s family, her two brothers, sister in law and father and uncle arrived at around 11 am to discuss the couple's issues. They had arrived hoping to resolve the matter through discussions. However, the matter took a turn and became violent, with the in-laws reportedly assaulting him.
Gupta’s mother, who lives with them, had gone to get refreshments and water for the visiting family.
The victim sustained severe injuries from the assault and later died, police officials said.
When the victim's mother returned, she allegedly found Gupta beaten and tried to intervene. She also alleged that she shouted for help and asked them to stop attacking her son.
His family alleged that he was brutally beaten and strangled inside in front of his mother
The also made other allegations, such as claiming that the attack was part of a pre-planned conspiracy and that Rekha had switched off CCTV cameras during the incident.
Police have started an investigation into the incident. A forensic team also collected evidence from the house.
Four people have been detained in connection to the case.
