(Trigger warning: Accident, demise; No video is used in this article)

A 55-year-old woman lost her life in a horrible elevator accident in Andhra Pradesh's Ongole. The heartbreaking incident took place in front of her daughter and grandchild, who were carrying travel bags with them, as CCTV footage showed.

From the bags and attire, it looked like the trio were about to set out on a journey. The woman, identified as Vinitha, boarded the elevator at the building identified as Surya Apartments in the company of her daughter and grandchild, and was the last to exit.

There was a small delay as the child, still learning to walk, made his way out. The women were all smiles as the boy took his sweet time to make his exit —followed by his mother. As Vinitha was stepping out, the elevator came crashing down, leaving her stuck between the floor and the upper part of the door. It was all smiles before tragedy struck, the video showed.

The daughter was seen desperately trying to pull her mother out as she screamed for help. She was also seen pressing the buttons in the hope that the machine might move up and release her mother. Sadly, she remained stuck before more people arrived and joined the rescue efforts, the CCTV footage showed. According to local media reports, Vinitha died later in the day while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

There was no information on the cause of the lift malfunction. Had Vinitha managed to exit the elevator a second earlier, the tragedy could have been avoided.
