Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday said that he was ready to discuss any issue in the Parliament, including the NEET-related student protests. He also accused the opposition of disrupting proceedings and preventing the house from functioning after.
The Parliament remained deadlocked after the opposition demanded a statement from Shah on the NEET-related student protests and the crackdown on the demonstrators.
“I am ready for a discussion on every issue, but they are not allowing the House to function. The government has nothing to hide. I will also discuss why you did not allow the discussion to take place,” Shah told reporters outside the parliament.
The statement comes as the Opposition demanded a statement from the government on the NEET protests.
Shah also said that they agreed to their initial demand for a discussion. He also said that they are ready to discuss all aspects from 3 pm to 3 pm tomorrow.
“I, too, have stated that I am ready to answer any question in Parliament, yet they simply do not want the discussion to take place. Now, let the public decide who is running away. Let them submit a letter to the Speaker by 3:00 PM today. We are ready for a discussion on all aspects from 3:00 PM today until 3:00 PM tomorrow”
Shah rejected claims that the government was avoiding parliament and said that he had been attending the house regularly since the session began.
“The government has nothing to hide. I will even discuss why they did not want the discussion to happen. The NDA government, under Modi ji's leadership, is ready to discuss anything; they just need to let Parliament function."
Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi said that the Opposition was not interested in listening to a lecture from Shah.
“We are not interested in listening to his lecture. When I say ‘we’, I mean the younger generations," he said.
