After his release from police custody, Tamil Nadu opposition leader Udhayanidhi Stalin on Tuesday night alleged that he was treated like a terrorist after being taken into police custody earlier in the day.
Slamming the TVK government led by CM C. Joseph Vijay as a "circus camp", Udhayanidhi said he is not afraid of false cases. He pointed out that he has a wife, a sister and a daughter while dismissing allegations about insulting women.
The controversy pertain to his alleged "double-meaning" remarks during a public meeting in Thanjavur on August 3. Udhayanidhi, son of former CM M.K. Stalin, said he had spoken in "single meaning", demanding the release of Cauvery water for Tamil Nadu.
"I spoke about farmers’ demands. All I said was that the Chief Minister should call an all-party meeting on the water issue," he said.
The former deputy chief minister and DMK MLA said his August 3 speech addressed the concerns of farmers in the state and alleged that the TVK government is trying to divert from the issue at hand.
"I spoke with evidence, pointing out what each minister has been doing over these three months. But instead of being capable of responding to all that, we have a Chief Minister who is incompetent, incapable and ineffective," he added.
After he was taken into custody from his residence in Neelankarai, Chennai, the opposition leader moved the Madras High Court, seeking anticipatory bail.
