Coastal Karnataka should expect heavy rains until Saturday, August 1, a new report said. Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada districts in particular should brace for heavy showers, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reportedly stated. As per local media reports , an orange alert has been issued for Dakshina Kannada and a yellow alert for the Malnad region.
According to reports, Belagavi, Dharwad, and Gadag districts should also brace for rainfall, as heavy downpours are possible in north interior Karnataka. Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru, along with Kodagu and Hassan districts, are also likely to receive showers on Saturday.
Heavy rain is likely in Kodagu and Hassan districts as well. Meanwhile, light to moderate rain may be witnessed in Bagalkot, Bidar, Haveri, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur, Vijayapura, and Yadgir districts. Districts in south interior Karnataka, including Bengaluru Urban and Bengaluru Rural, may also get similar rainfall.

As a consequence of the southwest monsoon strengthening in Karnataka, an orange alert has been issued for Dakshina Kannada on Friday. A yellow alert has been issued for Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, and Hassan districts, TV9 Kannada said in a report. Heavy rain is reportedly expected at isolated places in Dharwad and Gadag districts. Strong winds reaching up to 60 kmph may hit Belagavi, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada districts, the report added.
As per the IMD, Agumbe in Shivamogga district received 8 cm of rain in the 24-hour period ending Thursday evening, TV9 Kannada said. Other areas that recorded significant rainfall include Belthangady in Dakshina Kannada (6 cm), Chincholi in Kalaburagi (5 cm), Dharmasthala in Dakshina Kannada (5 cm), Jayapura in Chikkamagaluru (5 cm), Kundapura in Udupi (5 cm), Santpur in Bidar (5 cm), Sringeri in Chikkamagaluru (5 cm), and Uppinangady in Dakshina Kannada (5 cm).
