After a fake resignation letter claiming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi stepped down, the government on Thursday dismissed the purported document as fake.
The letter with the Ashok Chakra emblem purportedly carried PM Modi's signature and claimed that he was stepping down over "personal and political responsibility."
The resignation letter was fact-checked by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), which clarified that "no such letter" was issued by the PM, nor has it been signed by him.
PIB warned social media users to always verify such claims through official sources before believing it. "Exercise special caution before sharing personal or financial information or making any financial investments," the fact-check unit of PIB warned users.

This comes in the backdrop of Delhi police dismissing rumours about Jantar Mantar being closed for protests, saying these claims are "entirely false, misleading, and devoid of facts."
"It is officially clarified that Jantar Mantar remains an active and authorised site for peaceful and aurhorised demonstrations," Delhi Police posted on X.
Another fake video showed PM Modi purportedly threatening protesting students. However, PIB Fact-Check team clarified that the prime minister did not make any such remark and posted the original video, where PM Modi assures that a high-powered task force will be constituted under the leadership of Nandan Nilekani to implement examination reforms.
