A man was allegedly hacked to death by his wife and her lover in Bihar's Rohtas district on July 19. The couple had three children together and the accused man was a friend of the victim, reports said. After being slain, the victim's clothes were removed and his naked dead body was thrown into a canal in the hope that authorities would not be able to identify him.

The accused, Mamta Devi and Arvind Singh, who had been in an affair for a while, decided that they should kill the man, identified as Virendra Singh, as he was a hindrance to a life together. Mamta and Virendra Singh had three children together and were settled in Dera Chandi village. Arvind also hailed from the same village and befriended Virendra after he settled down with his wife.

According to reports, Arvind often visited the couple's house and soon started an affair with Mamta. Soon, they decided to start a life together after eliminating the woman's husband.

According to reports, Virendra was hacked to death on July 19 while asleep. Both the accused attacked him with an axe and soon threw his naked body into a nearby canal. As expected, the body was carried away by the currents, and there was initial confusion regarding the victim's identity.

After a few days, however, Virendra Singh's other relatives were able to identify him and the cops brought in Mamta for interrogation. The investigation team were reportedly able to pin the lovers with the help of technology-based evidence, including phone tower location and call records, Hindi media reports said.
