As protests by students supporting the Cockroach Janta Party escalate, a video posted by Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA Rohit Pawar purportedly shows a man, whom he claims is a police official in civil clothes, molesting a woman protester.
Sharing the video on his X account, Pawar said: Look at the disgusting act he is committing with a girl the age of his own daughter.” Pawar tagged Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and asked him to dismiss the individual from the police force, and to register a case of molestation against him.
As other videos of police personnel apprehending students participating in the Mumbai protest went viral, Mumbai Congress President Varsha Gaikwad took to X to seek accountability from the Mumbai police.
“What is this behaviour, Mumbai Police? Why is a male cop manhandling a young female protester like this? Why isn’t he letting his female colleagues handle this? What action will be taken against him? This is unacceptable,” she said while tagging Devendra Fadnavis.
Many other videos of cops manhandling protesters also went viral. In a video, shared by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on July 21, from Delhi, a policeman named Sandeep Lamba was seen slapping a woman. The CJP asked for his termination from service.
Advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan, appearing before the Delhi High Court in a plea challenging the alleged police brutalities, said: The video shows specifically the CP Sandeep Lamba, that is his name, his (name) badge is captured, slapping a woman who was standing simply on a side and she is doing nothing….Let’s not be scared to name the thugs in our uniform….He should be summoned here and asked for accountability for his actions”.
Lamba was later removed from duty at the Jantar Mantar.
