Union Minister J.P. Nadda’s claim on the SSB paper leak in Jammu and Kashmir drew a quick fact-check from Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who flagged discrepancies in the timeline and said the incident occurred in 2022 under the Lieutenant Governor-led administration.
Nadda, while addressing a press conference on Wednesday amid protests in Delhi over alleged irregularities in NEET and other competitive examinations, accused the National Conference and Congress of remaining silent on paper leak cases in Jammu and Kashmir.
Responding to the allegation, Abdullah said in a post on X: “You are absolutely correct about the SSB paper leak in J&K @JPNadda ji but you have got the date wrong. It was 2022.”
“The government wasn't of NC and Congress. It was a government headed by the Lt. Governor, but thank you for reminding everyone of this failure,” he added.
The JKSSB recruitment examinations for several posts, including sub-inspectors, junior engineers and finance accounts assistants, were cancelled in 2022 following allegations of paper leaks and corruption.
Following the controversy, the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court directed the Lieutenant Governor-led administration to constitute a high-powered committee to investigate the alleged irregularities.
Sharing an excerpt from the court order on X, Abdullah questioned the status of the probe and asked Nadda to provide an update on the committee’s findings.
“We have no idea what happened to the High Level Committee or its report. Perhaps you can share that with us in your next press conference,” Abdullah said.
The exchange comes as Opposition parties continue to target the Narendra Modi government over the protests being held in the national capital under the banner of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP). The protesters have raised several demands, the key one being the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
