An IPS trainee, who was facing sexual harassment charges, attempted suicide at his house in Hyderabad’s Moti Nagar. IPS trainee Uday Krishna Reddy, a constable-turned-IPS trainee at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Shivarampally, is currently in a critical condition after consuming sanitiser.

According to reports, a case has been filed against Reddy by his female colleague, who hails from Karnataka. In her complaint, the woman alleged that Reddy sent her lewd messages, locked her in a room and threatened her with a knife.

She alleged that Reddy began harassing her by sending obscene and sexual messages from June 23. He used obscene words in Telugu in front of friends at the academy, which hurt her dignity. She claimed that she did not understand Telugu and hence did not understand what he was talking about initially.

He also spread baseless rumours about her having extramarital affairs. On July 8, Reddy snatched her mobile and forcibly learned the password. On July 9 at 9 pm, he grabbed her hair and locked her in a room, choked her, and threatened her with a knife on her neck. He recorded her private videos and sent them to her husband to blackmail her. Her complaint states that he behaved indecently on July 10 as well.

Reddy reportedly rubbished the claims and had threatened to file a defamation case against the woman.

The case had garnered attention as Reddy was hailed as an inspiration to many after he cleared civil services exams after entering the service as a constable.

Hailing from Woollapalem village in Singarayakonda mandal of Prakasam district of Andhra, Reddy’s parents died when he was young, so he grew up with his grandmother, a vegetable vendor, according to local reports.

He was selected as a constable in 2013 and served till 2018. He resigned and began preparation for the Civil Services. He cleared the exams on his fifth attempt.
