In a major controversy, the Karnataka governor issued a recommendation to suspend the Karnataka Public Service Commission Chairman with immediate effect after he faced charges of abusing his position.
The governor also ordered an inquiry into KPSC chairman Shivashankarappa S Sahukar and the allegation against him.
Sahukar is facing charges of abusing his power and nepotism after he allegedly used illegal documents to secure a government post for his daughter.
The move is a first in the 75-year history of the KPSC.
A senior member of the commission was ordered to act as interim chairman until further orders.
The suspension has come after a Commission official noticed that Sahukara’s daughter, Suma S Sahukara, applied for the post of Industrial Extension officer under 3B reservation after obtaining an income and caste certificate declaring her family’s annual income to be Rs 40,000.
A complaint was filed in the matter to the Lok Bhavan.
A Lok Bhavan renouncement said that the Complaint against Sahukara was for Nepotism, non-disclosure of information and other matters.
Action was sought against him for abusing power and facilitating the selection of his two daughters for the posts of Industrial Extension Officer.
The announcement also said that the daughter obtained the income and caste certificate despite being aware of the fact that they had a high income and that her father was the chairman of the commission,
The evidence showed that the daughter concealed the facts, used a distorted declaration and sought reservations for backward classes.
According to a government order dates march 200. the children of the KPSC chairman are not eligible for reservation under the Other Backward Classes quota.
The police have issued a notice to Suma, the daughter.
An FIR was registered against her after KPSC Secretary K. Jyoti filed a complaint alleging that she submitted false income and caste certificates.
Senior member of the commission, Dr B. Prabhudev, has been appointed as the interim chairman of KPSC. Dr B. Prabhudev has been serving as a member of KPSC since 2021. He has played a significant role in many important reforms and changes brought in the KPSC in the past.
