A physical education teacher was booked in Karnataka after the father of a late Class VI student alleged that his son was beaten to death by him, news reports said. While the school had informed the complainant that the boy collapsed on the school campus, he came to know from a fellow student that his son had been beaten by the physical education teacher using an iron rod.
According to reports, the shocking incident took place on the campus of Sterling English Residential School in Kadayarappanahalli village of Bagalur. An emerging residential neighbourhood in North Bangalore, it is located about 12 km from the KIADB Aerospace SEZ.
The child was beaten by the PT teacher when he was in the hostel and his neck bent as a result of the assault, Times of India quoted the child's father as claiming. He was initially notified by the school that the 12-year-old had collapsed at school due to illness. By the time he arrived at the hospital, the boy had passed away, the report said.
The family members and other parents gathered at the school and the hospital and staged a protest. The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Northeast Division, visited the spot, held discussions with the parents, and assured them that a comprehensive investigation would be conducted.
The PT teacher, identified as Narayan, was booked under BNS Section 101 (murder). A police source reportedly told the PTI that the school maintains that the boy, who had health issues, collapsed after jogging a brief distance. They are reportedly in the process of collecting CCTV footage as they continue to wait for the child's postmortem report
