In an interesting development, a police investigation has revealed that the accused in the alleged Ketan Agarwal murder case was already married.
Police reportedly claimed in a statement to News18 Marathi that the accused Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary were secretly married four months ago and that they hid it from their families.
The revelation reportedly came to light through WhatsApp chats recovered from their phone.
Investigators say the development gives the case a fresh dimension.
Police reportedly checked the accused's call records, location data, chats and internet search history retrieved from the accused’s phone.
Police think that it was after the secret marriage that the alleged conspiracy to eliminate Ketan from the picture was hatched.
Officials have not made any formal statement regarding the findings, and are currently verifying the authenticity of the recovered digital evidence. Technical teams from the police are trying to recover deleted photographs from a private Instagram account that reportedly showed the couple wearing wedding garlands. Police claimed that the first attempt to murder Ketan was allegedly made on June 14, but did not succeed.
Siya reportedly lost her courage at the last moment, causing the plan to fail.
Ketan Agarwal died after allegedly being pushed down from the historic Lohagad Fort in Pune. The incident was initially believed to be an accident, but a probe led police to believe that Goyal and Chaudhary were involved in the death; a murder case was registered, and both accused are in police custody.
