In a shocking incident, a 30-year-old man from Kolar in Karnataka allegedly murdered his sleeping wife and sister-in-law. Two hours after the incident, the accused, identified as Ejaz, surrendered at the local police station and confessed to the crime.
The incident occurred in the Chikkaballapur district early in the morning on Monday. According to the police, Ejaz and Shama, 25, had been married for eight years and have three children. Following the death of her mother, Shama returned to her parents’ house with her children around four months ago. Despite Ejaz requesting her to return home with the children several times, Shama had refused.
Family members alleged that Ejaz, who repaired metal items and almirahs for a living, was addicted to alcohol and gambling. The couple frequently quarrelled over his habits, and Shama was on the verge of seeking a divorce after years of alleged harassment, they said.
The relatives claimed that elders in the family had made multiple attempts at mediation, but with no effect. Ejaz, in the past, had allegedly made several threats to kill Shama and her sister, blaming her family for her departure.
Around 6:15 am on Monday, Ejaz came to Chintamani from Kolar, strangled his sleeping wife, and fatally injured her sister, 18-year-old Reshmi, with a knife. His three young children were present in the house during the attack. Ejaz, taking along his children, then allegedly left on his motorcycle for his residence in Gulpet. By 8.30 am, he left the children at home and confessed to the two murders at the Gulpet police station.
Ejaz reportedly told the police that Shama’s sister and her family were preventing her from coming back to him.
District Superintendent of Police Kushal Choukse, Additional Superintendent of Police Jagganath Rai and several inspectors from Chintamani City inspected the crime scene. A murder case has been registered at Chintamani Nagar Police Station, and the police are continuing the investigation.
