The late Ketan Agarwal suspected his fiancée, Siya Goyal, was keeping secrets and had raised the matter with his parents well before his demise, the investigation team discovered. He was worried that Siya was involved romantically with someone else and had shared his concerns with his father. Had the Agarwals paid heed to his claims, the tragedy could have been avoided.

According to the latest revelations, Ketan wanted his family to run a thorough background check on Siya before taking the proposal forward. He had pointed out that her phone was often busy, which made him suspicious.

According to the report, Ketan emphasised a background check because he was particularly troubled by the fact that the co-accused Chetan Chaudhary's name was frequently mentioned by her during casual conversations.

When Siya started picking fights often after the engagement, Ketan almost decided enough was enough. However, his parents convinced him that the fights stemmed from her immature character and would go away in the course of time, the report said. She was, after all, a young girl, he was told.

Ketan was told not to be concerned about her loyalty as she came from a family that was well known to the Agarwals. The matchmaking was reportedly initiated by a mutual friend of the two families.

Ketan Agarwal was allegedly pushed to his death from a cliff at the Lohagad Fort in Pune district on June 18 by Siya Goyal (20) and her alleged lover Chetan Chaudhary (22). Agarwal and Goyal were set to marry in November this year.

Following the alleged murder, Goyal and Chaudhary were arrested and have been remanded in police custody till July 3.
