Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari hit out at Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP) founder and MLA Humayun Kabir in the West Bengal Assembly on Monday.
CM Adhikari brought up two incidents where Kabir allegedly made objectionable and communally sensitive comments at two rallies in June. Two FIRs have been initiated against Kabir at the Shaktinagar and Rejinagar police stations, where the comments were allegedly made.
“I will not allow him to speak in such a threatening manner. This is going to be his last such remark,” said Suvendu Adhikari. “Think 25 times before making such comments in future.”
Two BJP MLAs raised objections to Kabir’s instigating remarks, which prompted Adhikari to speak on the issue. Adhikari said he will go to Murshidabad district the following week and prove that the Constitution and the law are the last word.
“I assure you, no one has given you this power,” said Adhikari.
The comments by Kabir were made in Rejinagar on June 26th and in Shaktipur on June 8th. Adhikari also said that Kabir is doing this for two political reasons: one, to garner Muslim minority votes ahead of the Rejinagar Assembly by-elections after Kabir vacated the seat, retaining his other winning seat, Nowada; the second reason is to make his son win the vacant seat.
“The day I mobilise thousands of Muslims and take to the streets, I will strike so hard that there won’t be anyone left to even carry your party flag,” Kabir had said during his speech at Shaktipur.
Ahead of the assembly elections, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) had come out with a video of a sting operation of a person resembling Humayun Kabir stating he had struck a deal with the BJP for Rs 200 crore to divide the Muslim minority votes of the TMC. The BJP rubbished these claims. Kabir too denied these allegations and went ahead to win the two seats he contested in Rejinagar and Nowada.
