Key religious sites, government establishments, and police installations in Delhi and Uttarakhand have been placed under heightened security surveillance following intelligence inputs about a possible terror threat.
According to reports, the alert was triggered after an email surfaced warning of potential attacks in the coming days. The email also reportedly referenced certain political leaders, raising concerns among security agencies.
Following this, Delhi Police and Uttarakhand Police, along with central intelligence agencies, have stepped up vigilance and reviewed security arrangements at sensitive locations.
Security deployment has been increased at key religious sites, transport hubs, and government buildings across both regions. Local police units have also been directed to remain alert and intensify patrolling.
Cyber experts are examining the digital trail of the message to determine whether the threat is credible or a hoax. Security agencies have not ruled out any possibility and are maintaining close surveillance on suspicious activity.
The threat message comes days after a prolonged stand-off between a group of Nihangs and authorities at the Nagrasu gurdwara in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district.
The Nihangs had been demanding the release of four members arrested in connection with a clash with locals at Karnaprayag market on June 16. The standoff ended after three days on June 23 following the intervention of a Sikh delegation.
However, tensions resurfaced on June 25 when a group of Nihang Sikhs forcibly entered Uttarakhand via the Kulhal border in Dehradun district, again demanding the release of the arrested men. Officials managed to persuade them to return to Paonta Sahib.
The four arrested Nihang Sikhs were later granted bail on Saturday by a district and sessions court in Uttarakhand.
