A Bengaluru businessman, who was found dead at Kannada actress Krishi Thapanda's apartment in RR Nagar, had called her before his death, police revealed.

Police claimed that the businessman, identified as Vaishak, 36, ended his life when he was alone in the flat on the fourth floor. 

Krishi, a former Bigg Boss Kannada contestant, was in Yelahanka when he died. Vaishak had called Krishi to inform her that he was going to kill himself. However, no suicide note was recovered from the spot.

Krishi immediately alerted his family members as she rusehd to the apartment. However, when they arrived at the spot, he was found dead.

Vaishak's body was brought to Victoria Hospital for autopsy. Police have registered a case of unnatural death based on a complaint filed by Vaishak's father and a probe is underway.

Police are also looking into Vaishak's criminal history as he was earlier arrested in connection with allegedly threatening businessman and lawyer Aravind Reddy and extorting money from him. Reddy reportedly received a letter demanding an apology and ₹6 crore via courier. Folowing this, HAL police took Vaishak into custody for five days. Later, he was released on bail. The Karnataka High Court stayed further probe against Vaishak on February 6.

According to reports, the criminal case had put Vaishak under mental stress and he was undergoing treatment for depression. He also had frequent disputes with his wife and was living separately from his wife for around a month. For a while, he was staying at Krishi's apartment.

Police are investigating whether this led him to take the extreme step. However, they are yet to ascertain the exact cause of his death and awaiting the autopsy results.
