The death of Bharat Bhushan Tiwari, a 26-year-old social media activist from Bihar's Bhojpur district known for raising local issues, has reached the Supreme Court amid allegations of a "fake" police encounter. While police claim Tiwari, found with an illegal firearm on June 17, fired at them first and was shot in self-defense during their attempt to arrest him, his family and villagers assert he surrendered his weapon after being assured he wouldn't be shot, presenting social media videos as evidence of him being unarmed when police opened fire. Post-mortem reports indicate he was shot twice in the legs, and a live Facebook stream during the incident appears to corroborate the family's account. A Supreme Court petition filed by lawyer Vishal Tiwari seeks an impartial investigation and FIR against involved officers, while political figures have also questioned the encounter, with police stating Tiwari was mentally unstable. Protests have erupted, and Tiwari's mother refuses to perform final rites until those responsible are apprehended, also demanding the return of her son's mobile phone, which she claims holds crucial evidence.
