In Dehradun's Patel Nagar, Riya Kumari, a 23-year-old NEET aspirant preparing for a reexamination, was found dead by hanging in her locked room on Tuesday, with her father being a retired army personnel and her mother discovering the scene. Police, who arrived after her parents forced the door open, recovered a suicide note in which she apologized for her decision and attributed it to her incompetence, not anyone else's fault, and the family subsequently cremated her body without a postmortem, stating no noticeable behavioral changes. While initial statements from parents and neighbors did not indicate visible emotional distress, authorities have confirmed a probe will be conducted to ascertain if she was under pressure or in distress, noting her intense study habits and isolation in her room while preparing for multiple exams.

A 23-year-old NEET aspirant was found dead at her home in Dehradun’s Patel Nagar area on Tuesday. The woman, Riya Kumari, had been preparing for the reexamination for the medical entrance scheduled for June 21.

Kumari’s father is a retired army personnel.

On Tuesday morning, Kumar’s mother found that her room was locked from the inside.

She informed her husband, and they forced the door open to find the woman hanging.

The police were called at around 11:30 am.

Circle Officer Ankit Kandari said that a suicide note was recovered, where the victim apologised for her decision.

“I love you, Papa; I am sorry. This is not due to anyone’s fault; this is due to my incompetence,” the note read.

Her body was cremated on Tuesday after the family denied a postmortem. Her family had not noticed any major changes in her behaviour.

Kandari sai dthat a probe would be made. “We will probe that she was being pressured and was in distress over it,” he said.

Jaiver Singh, the police post in charge of the area, said that the young woman was preparing for multiple examinations and would not leave the room for hours.

Her parents grew tense when she did not step out for breakfast on Tuesday. They last saw her the previous night studying in her room.

Statements recorded by the police from the parents and neighbours did not indicate the woman was going through any visible emotional distress, Times of India reported.

Police said further investigations into the incident are underway.
