Amid the controversy over the procurement of the Central Board of Secondary Education’s (CBSE) On-Screen Marking (OSM) system and alleged irregularities in the full-scale implementation of the platform used for evaluating Class XII answer papers, the government has transferred CBSE chairman Rahul Singh and secretary Himanshu Gupta.

Singh had overseen the board's overall operations and administration, while Gupta managed administrative functions, including legal matters, audits and public relations, according to media reports.

The government has also constituted a one-member committee to inquire into matters related to the procurement of services for the OSM system.

According to an official order, the committee will be headed by S. Radha Chauhan, chairperson of the Capacity Building Commission.

The committee has been tasked with examining issues related to the procurement of services for the OSM system, which is used by the CBSE for the digital evaluation of answer scripts.

The order empowers the committee chairperson to seek assistance from officers of other government offices, if required, for the conduct of the inquiry. Secretarial support to the committee will be offered by the Capacity Building Commission.

The committee has been directed to submit its report to the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) within one month.

CBSE officials had denied any irregularities, asserting that the procurement process adhered to the General Financial Rules (GFR) and established government procedures.

On Monday, student groups staged a protest, demanding a public apology from the Union government over the examination-related controversies and calling for structural reforms to ensure a transparent and accountable examination system.
