A 26-year-old model from Delhi, who came to Kerala for the shooting of an advertisement, tragically drowned in a waterlogged quarry in Perumbavoor, Ernakulam, according to a report.
The deceased has been identified as Divyanshu Joshi, a resident of Ambedkar Nagar, Delhi. He was part of a four-member team who had come to shoot an advertisement for a Delhi-based garment manufacturing company, reported Manorama Online.
The incident occurred at Pettimala rock quarry in Mudakkuzha Panchayat near Kuruppumpady. Entry to the quarry is strictly prohibited due to previous incidents of drowning in the area, according to the news outlet. The water body in the quarry is more than 100 feet deep and has multiple rock layers.
Kodanad police stated that the team was scheduled to obtain permission from the panchayat on Friday, as the office was closed for Bakr-id.
On Thursday, a few members of the team visited the site to check the shooting location. When they arrived, Joshi entered the water as another person in the team tried to shoot a video. However, Joshi sank into a deep section of the quarry, added the report.
The Kerala Fire and Rescue Services reportedly arrived immediately after they were informed and launched a search operation. Joshi was found from a depth of around 30 feet and was rushed to Perumbavoor Taluk Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His body has been moved to the hospital mortuary for further procedures.
