‘Indirect methods to ask dowry’: Twisha Sharma's father says in-laws taunted daughter over expenses after she lost her job

Navnidhi Sharma, Twisha Sharma's father says that people today ask women for dowry without using the word by rising questions about dignity and expenses

There has been a cash reward announced for the absconding lawyer-husband of 33-year-old content creator and marketing professional Twisha Sharma, who died under suspicious circumstances five months after her marriage. The Bhopal police is offering a cash reward of Rs 10,000 for information that could lead to Samarth Singh’s arrest.

On May 12, Twisha Sharma was found hanging at her husband's home in the Katara Hills area of Bhopal. Her father, Navnidhi Sharma, has been protesting against the lapses in the investigation into her death and has demanded a second autopsy for his daughter.

Speaking to the media, Navnidhi Singh spoke about how men’s families ask for dowry using indirect demands these days.

"Look, in today's times, dowry is a word which people demand in different ways without using the word. They create such circumstances that money is taken out of your pocket. No one says give me dowry."

He said that the demands arise regarding dignity and expenses after the marriage.

"When Twisha lost her job, the taunts started, 'How will we feed you?' All these things started to surface," he said.

He also spoke about the behaviour of the Samarth Singh towards his daughter calling him a "wolf in sheep's clothing". "It all started in the beginning because no one can make such demands so quickly. Right from the beginning, his attitude seemed like that of a criminal. During the honeymoon, he got angry over something and pushed his wife. Then Twisha even asked her brother if he had made a wrong decision," he said

"Twisha's brother told her that sometimes people get a little angry, so don't take it too seriously. Now I feel that we should not have ignored it. Daughters ignore many things to save their marriage."

"If you look at his history, the first daughter-in-law in that house also got divorced due to harassment. Many assurances were given, which were later not fulfilled," he added.

Meanwhile, Giribala Singh, Samrth Singh’s mother, said that she offered Twisha financial assistance of more than  7 lakh rupees, within five months of their marriage.  The former judge said that when Twisha was found hanging, the family tried everything to save her. He claimed that Samarth Singh and neighbours performed CPR on Twisha.

She also made serious allegations against Twisha's parents, saying that they pushed their daughter into the world of glamour at an early age and later distanced themselves from her.

Giribala said that the allegations of dowry harassment being levelled against the family are completely baseless.
