All ten individuals accused in the Red Fort car bomb explosion case were associated with Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGuH), an offshoot of Al-Qaida in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), the National Investigation Agency (NIA) said.

The agency filed a 7,500-page chargesheet in a Delhi court against the accused, including the main perpetrator, Dr Umer Un Nabi (deceased). The charges are framed under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967; Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023; Explosive Substances Act, 1908; Arms Act, 1959; and Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984.

The high-intensity Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) blast near the Red Fort on November 10 killed 11 people, injured several others, and caused extensive property damage. The car was driven by Umer, a former Assistant Professor of Medicine at Al-Falah University in Faridabad.

The NIA stated that a detailed scientific and forensic investigation had uncovered a major jihadi conspiracy. Several of the accused, including radicalised medical professionals, were inspired by AQIS/AGuH ideology to carry out the attack.

The Ministry of Home Affairs had designated AQIS and all its manifestations as terrorist organisations in June 2018.

Apart from Umer, the other accused named in the chargesheet are Aamir Rashid Mir, Jasir Bilal Wani, Dr. Muzamil Shakeel, Dr. Adeel Ahmed Rather, Dr. Shaheen Saeed, Mufti Irfan Ahmad Wagay, Soyab, Dr. Bilal Naseer Malla, and Yasir Ahmad Dar, the agency said.
