TVK chief Vijay on Friday evening met Governor Rajendra Arlekar and staked claim to form the government in Tamil Nadu after securing necessary numbers to prove majority in the state assembly.
Though initial reports claimed that Vijay will be sworn in as chief minister on Saturday at 11 am, the governor was yet to give an official confirmation on the oath-taking ceremony.
This was Vijay's third meeting with Governor Rajendra Arlekar over the last three days. TVK won 108 seats in the 234-member assembly and required 10 more seats to reach the majority mark of 118. The governor sent Vijay back, asking him to return with the required number of signatures.
While the Congress had earlier extended support of its five MLAs-elect, he required five more. On Friday, DMK allies VCK, CPI and CPI(M) extended their support. The three parties have two seats each.
While the VCK's Thol Thirumavalavan is expected to get the deputy chief minister post, the Left parties said they would support the government from outside and would not be part of the Cabinet.
Later in the day, after Vijay's meeting with the governor, IUML, which has two MLAs-elect, has also extended outside support to TVK.
