In the wake of the stupendous performance of actor-politician Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in Tamil Nadu elections, where the party was leading in 107 assembly constituencies, there are speculations that Kollywood star Trisha may contest in the assembly elections from Trichy East.
The bypolls to Trichy East will be necessitated as Vijay is poised to win from both the constituencies—Trichy East and Perambur—from where he contested. The actor-politician will have to give up one of the seats, and local media reports suggest that he may choose Perambur over Trichy East.
Citing reports, Dinamani news report claimed that Trisha may contest from Trichy East on a TVK ticket when Vijay gives up the seat. The Week, however, was unable to independently verify such reports.
As Vijay's TVK sprang a surprise by taking an early lead in the counting of votes, visusals showed Trisha arriving at Vijay's house.

As Vijay's party is poised to secure a majority in the state, all eyes are now on its poll promises, including eight grams of gold for brides, Rs 2,500 monthly assistance for women heads of households, and "honest administration".
According to news agency PTI, a source in the party said the welfare initiatives would be a priority for the TVK if it formed the government.
TVK's assurances also include creating five lakh new government jobs, providing five lakh paid internships for students, a monthly stipend of Rs 4,000 for unemployed graduates, and education loans of up to Rs 20 lakh for higher studies.
