The National Democratic Alliance is anchored by the BJP and includes the Rabha Hasong Joutha Mancha, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), and the Bodoland People's Front (BPF), which has been brought in to fill the vacuum left by the UPPL's departure. The United People's Party Liberal (UPPL), a former NDA ally, exited the alliance over seat-sharing disputes in March 2026 and is contesting independently.

The Congress-led opposition front, formally revived as the Asom Sonmilito Morcha, comprises the Indian National Congress (INC), Akhil Gogoi's Raijor Dal, the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), the CPI(M), the CPI(ML), and the All Party Hill Leaders Conference (APHLC). Badruddin Ajmal's AIUDF remains outside the alliance. Congress is contesting 101 seats, the Raijor Dal and CPI(M) 11 each, the AJP 10, the APHLC two, and the CPI(ML) one.

The Congress, now led by Gaurav Gogoi, is banking on anti-incumbency and has centred its campaign on unemployment, inflation, and governance failures. Senior Congress leader Pawan Khera made controversial allegations concerning the Chief Minister's family, triggering political tension and legal responses. The opposition has also promised justice over the death of noted singer Zubeen Garg, whose passing became a campaign flashpoint.

Meanwhile, the NDA's campaign has been anchored by Chief Minister Sarma himself, with support from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Key issues such as anti-infiltration measures, the implementation of peace accords, infrastructure development, and welfare initiatives have resonated with large sections of the population. The government's flagship scheme, Orunodoi, provides ₹1,250 per month to eligible women and currently benefits nearly 40 lakh individuals.

The election season has been marked by undercurrents of corruption allegations against Sarma's administration, the UPPL's dramatic exit from the NDA, defections and dissent within the ruling alliance over candidate selection, and persistent concerns over unemployment and infiltration—factors that could shape the final verdict. The state recorded a total voter turnout of 85.38% on April 9.
