Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will be holding his final cabinet meeting on Wednesday, April 8. Several important proposals are to go through the meeting.
Following this Nitish Kumar will be taking oath as a member of the Rajya Sabha on April 10 in Delhi.
Speculations are rife that the new chief minister who will appointed after Nitish Kumar’s resignation will be from the BJP. Kumar is set to step down formally from April 13 and the alliance is set to finalise its decision in Delhi. An NDA legislative meeting is also to be convened on April 12 which is when the new Chief Minister will be announced.
There have been strong hints that the BJP’s main choice for the Chief ministerial post is is Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary.
The state had not had a chief minister from the BJP despite the NDA being in power for more than two decades.
Choudhary has proved to be a strong contender for the post due to his recent appearances with outgoing Kumar. The other Deputy chief minster Vijay Kumar Sinha had taken himself out of the chief ministerial race cementing chaudhary’s strong contender-ship.
Meanwhile Singha MLA Sanjiv Chaurasia's name suddenly gained traction after he met with BJP’s top leadership during Ram Navami, and his visit to Delhi.
Speculations are rife that he is the RSS’s choice, however there has been no official confirmation.
There has also been talks that factions are forming within the BJP in Bihar over the choice of Chaudhary.
Sources told local news that about 40-50 MLAs didn't want Choudhary as the leader.
Senior BJP leaders who spoke on anonymity said that the the party members wanted a veteran leader who had been there during the party’s struggle in Bihar.
Samrat Chaudahry according to them, didn't make the cut.
He had previously been with the RJD before he joined the BJP through Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) and the JDU.
Senior party leaders therefore have been vying for someone with an RSS background.
Several names have also been proposed giving careful consideration to their caste backgrounds as they play role in Bihar's elections.
Other names doing the rounds are Union Minister Nityanand Rai, and State Industries Minister Dilip Kumar Jaiswal.
So far with just days left for Nitish Kumar's resignation the BJP and the NDA is yet to make a formal announcement regarding Samrat Choudhary
