In a major security breach, an unidentified car rammed through the main gate of the Delhi Legislative Assembly and entered the premises on Monday, sparking a security alarm.
According to news agency ANI, the car with an Uttar Pradesh registration number, forcibly entered Gate No. 2, breaking the iron gate. The driver then placed a bouquet there and left. The incident happened around 2 pm.
Media reports suggest that the bouquet was placed near the office of Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta. Ink allegedly was hurled at the Speaker’s vehicle.
The police said a search for the vehicle has been launched, and security has been beefed up on the premises.
A News18 report said authorities are examining how the car was able to break through the barricade and gain entry inside. The authorities are also expected to scan the CCTV footage from the area to see how the sequence of events unfolded.
The incident has raised concerns regarding the security arrangements at the assembly complex, which is supposed to be a highly protected area.
