A 23-year-old woman, who had recently completed her MBBS degree, died by suicide in Hyderabad after her family reportedly opposed her desire to adopt a cat.
The deceased has been identified as T Princy alias Shreshtha, a resident of Alwal. According to reports, Princy was found dead at her home on Friday evening when her mother and grandmother, who had been away, returned.
Reports indicate that Princy had been raising a cat she brought home three weeks ago. However, her parents objected to the pet, which led to frequent quarrels between them.
On Friday, when her mother and grandmother went out for some work, the she allegedly took the extreme step by hanging from a ceiling fan in her room.
Her body was later taken to the Gandhi Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination. The police have filed a case of suspicious death based on a complaint lodged by her mother.
"The mother informed us that Princy had brought home a pet cat. After that, she developed cold and cough symptoms, which led to repeated disputes between them," Alwal Sub-Inspector Devendra was quoted as saying by NDTV.
Reports also mentioned that Princy was in the process of applying for her medical license and was also preparing for her postgraduate entrance examinations.
