Traffic restrictions in Kochi city on March 11 for Prime Minister Modi's visit: Everything you need to know

Strict traffic curbs will be in place in Kochi on March 11 due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit. Here are the affected areas, timings, and alternative routes for commuters

Kochi police have announced strict traffic curbs for March 11 in preparation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the city. The restrictions will mainly be imposed in Kaloor and Marine Drive areas.

Around 8000 police personnel have also been deployed in the city for security in connection with the PM’s visit.

About 50,000 people are expected to gather for the NDA’s convention in Kochi at the Jawaharlal International Stadium in Kaloor.

Heavy vehicles have also been barred from entering the city limits from 10 pm on Tuesday till the end of the PM’s visit.

Vehicles will not be allowed between the Naval base and Marine Drive from noon to 12:30 pm on Wednesday.

From 12:00 pm to 12:30 pm, a traffic restriction would be put in place on the route from the Naval base to Marine Drive.

The route goes through Thevara, Atlantis, Ravipuram, Pallimukku, Jose Junction, BTH Road, Park Avenue Road and Shanmugham Road. Police will be diverting vehicles away from this route from 11 am.

From 12:50 to 1:20 pm, the Marine Drive to Kaloor Jawarharlal stadium will be restricted. The route goes through High Court, Banerjee Road, Madhava Pharmacy, Kacheripady North Overbridge, Judges Avenue and Kaloor.

To go from the Aluva side to the High Court, take the Edappally, Mamangalam, Pottakuzhi, Pachalam Overbridge and Chathyath roads.
From the Aluva side to Fort Kochi, you can go from Edappally to Vyttila, Kadavanthra, Panampilly Nagar, Thevara Ferry and BOT East route.

From 3:05 pm to 3:30 pm, the route from Kaloor Stadium back to the Naval base via MG Road and Thevara would be restricted. The route includes Banerjee Road, Madhava Pharmacy, M.G. Road, Pallimukku, Ravipuram and Atlantis.

Buses from Fort Kochi and Mattancherry to Ernakulam and Aluva will also be diverted at the BOT east junction. They can proceed via Kudannoor-Vytilla and Edappally route.

Vehicles from Fort Kochi should take the Thevara Ferry-Panampilly Nagar-Kadavanthra route, and those from Bolgatty should take the Chathyath-Pachalam-Edappally route.

Special parking spaces have also been arranged for those attending the Prime Minister's event. For those who come from the Thrissur and Vypin side: Bolgatty, Vallarpadam Basilica Ground and LNG Terminal area are the parking locations.

For those coming from South Kerala and Fort Kochi side, the spaces are in D.H. Ground, Maharaja's College Ground and Ernakulathappan Ground.

The traffic curbs will be in place until 3 pm tomorrow.
